Gross before withholding. Each workweek stands alone, even inside a biweekly pay period.

The week is the unit that matters

Overtime is measured in fixed seven-day workweeks, not pay periods and not months. That single rule decides most disputes: a 46-hour week followed by a 34-hour week owes six hours of premium, no matter that the two-week total is 80 hours. If your stub averages them, that is a problem worth raising.

What the premium is actually worth

Only the extra half is the premium. Seven overtime hours at a $21 rate produce $220.50 of overtime pay, of which $73.50 is the premium the law adds. Seeing those two numbers separately makes it obvious whether a stub applied the multiplier or quietly paid straight time.

Compare weeks honestly

The effective hourly rate is the figure to use when weighing jobs: an overtime-heavy week at a lower base can beat a flat forty at a higher one. Take the same numbers into the overtime paycheck calculator for the net deposit, or the overtime hours estimator if you are not sure how many overtime hours your schedule creates.
