Editorial Policy & Accuracy Standards

Our Editorial Mission
Overtime Pay Calculator USA exists to give American workers free, accurate, and easy-to-understand information about overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the labor laws of all 50 states. Every calculator and article on this site is written, reviewed, and updated with that single purpose in mind — no sponsored placements, no pay-to-rank links, no editorial favors.
Who Writes Our Content
Our content is researched and written by Javed Nianat, our lead payroll and labor-law researcher, who specializes in U.S. wage-and-hour rules, FLSA exemption analysis, and state-specific overtime regulations. Every article includes a visible byline and a "last updated" date so readers always know who wrote it and when it was last verified.
Calculator logic is built by our engineering team and audited against the most recent guidance from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and each state's labor department.
How We Research and Verify
Every article and state calculator is checked against primary sources:
- U.S. Department of Labor – Wage and Hour Division (FLSA rules, fact sheets, opinion letters)
- State minimum wage tables published by the DOL
- Each state's official Department of Labor or Labor Commissioner's office
- The U.S. Code (29 U.S.C. § 207 and related sections)
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for wage and employment data
Where state-specific laws differ from federal rules (e.g., California's daily overtime, Colorado's COMPS Order, Nevada's wage-based threshold), we cite the controlling state regulation directly.
How Often We Update
- Annually — every January, all 50 state pages are reviewed for new minimum-wage rates and rule changes effective that year.
- When the law changes — major DOL rule changes (e.g., the 2026 salary threshold for exempt employees) are reflected within 14 days of the effective date.
- On reader reports — corrections submitted via our contact page are reviewed within 5 business days.
Corrections Policy
If you find an error in a calculator, an article, or a state page, please tell us through our contact form. We investigate every report. When we publish a correction, we update the "Last updated" date on the affected page and, for material factual changes, add a brief correction note at the bottom of the article.
Editorial Independence
We do not accept payment in exchange for favorable coverage, link placements, or recommendations. The calculator and all guides remain free, with no signup, paywall, or premium tier. Display advertising, when present, is clearly labeled and never influences editorial decisions.
