Social Security Tax Calculator
The 6.2% OASDI line on your stub, calculated against the 2026 wage base of $184,500.00 — including the paycheck where withholding stops for the year.
Your Wages
2026 wage base: $184,500.00. Wages above it pay no Social Security tax.
The Cap Is the Whole Story
Social Security is the only major payroll tax with a ceiling. Below the base it behaves like a flat 6.2% on gross wages including overtime; above it, the tax simply ends for the year. That is why a high earner with a heavy overtime spring often sees an unexplained raise in the autumn — nothing changed except the running total.
Compare with the uncapped Medicare tax calculator, see both halves in the FICA calculator, and check the bracket side with the federal tax calculator. The wage base guide explains what happens with two jobs.
