Shift Calculator
Built for people who work nights, weekends, and 12-hour rotations. Enter your shift pattern and premiums and we'll blend the differential into your regular rate the way the FLSA requires — which is where most shift workers quietly lose money.
Your Shift Pattern
Common Shift Schedules and Weekly Hours
| Pattern | Avg hours/week |
|---|---|
| 5 × 8 hours | 40 |
| 4 × 10 hours (4/10) | 40 |
| 3 × 12 hours | 36 |
| 4 × 12 hours | 48 |
| Pitman / 2-3-2 | 42 |
| 4-on-4-off (12s) | 42 |
Where Shift Pay Goes Wrong
Overtime on the base rate. If you earned a differential that week, 1.5× base is too low. The premium belongs in the regular rate.
Averaging a rotation. A 42-hour average does not erase the 48-hour week. Overtime is measured per workweek.
Shift-swap black holes. Picking up a colleague's shift still counts toward your 40 hours, even if the schedule software books it under their name.
Handoff time. Nursing report, warehouse turnover, and security briefings at shift change are compensable working time.
